Dana White has just revealed a little more about the plans for Jiu-Jitsu in the UFC, including a multi-million dollar investment over the next year. The UFC has already done some amazing things for Jiu-Jitsu and UFC Fight Pass Invitational has quickly become one of the biggest promotions in the sport. They’ve gone from strength to strength since their inception and have even managed to sign Mikey Musumeci to an exclusive contract, putting pressure on other promotions as a result. The promotion hasn’t stopped with just one elite competitor though, and sources have said that they have pursued several others in the hopes of setting up a new grappling league.
Exclusive contracts with the best grapplers in the world don’t come cheap of course, but the UFC has the financial power to pull it off. According to White, they’re pouring a lot of money into Jiu-Jitsu:
“We’re gonna invest like 10 to 12 million dollars in Jiu-Jitsu over the next year. We’re gonna go big on that.”
It makes sense too, as White previously announced that a reality show was on the horizon too. The exact details on that are still pretty thin on the ground and there hasn’t been any official announcement yet, but something did emerge recently. Kade Ruotolo let slip that Gordon Ryan and Mikey Musumeci would be featured in the show, a clear sign that the promotion is taking this new venture very seriously. White was also asked about the possibility of booking some of the UFC’s biggest stars in grappling matches and although he was interested in it, it was refreshing to hear that Jiu-Jitsu is the real focus:
“The answer is yes. If those big fights are available that we could make, then we would definitely do it. But I think you’re gonna see more of the Jiu-Jitsu guys, the big stars in Jiu-Jitsu, before you see UFC fighters.”
The clip of Dana White announcing the planned UFC investment in Jiu-Jitsu over the next year was uploaded to Twitter and the promotion’s events can all be found on UFC Fight Pass:
