Craig Jones is known for stirring the pot and he’s always found fun in trolling other BJJ competitors, but now he’s started dropping hints at an unnamed predator who will soon be revealed. It’s a serious accusation to levy at anyone, but Jones has skirted the line somewhat by not naming any one person in particular. He originally made the accusation in a somewhat generalized and joking fashion in a recent Instagram post, referring to the host of NBC’s ‘To Catch A Predator’:
“The 2 things Brazilian, jiu jitsu black belts fear the most. USADA and Chris Hansen.”
It’s worth noting the comma after Brazilian too, indicating that he’s referring to Jiu-Jitsu black belts of Brazilian nationality rather than simply a BJJ black belt. He then followed that up in the comments with two sentences that made clear that he was actually talking about one person in particular, the first of which was in Portuguese and has been translated back into English:
“You’ll hear about it soon.”
“We got a big one coming.”
It might seem easy to dismiss this as another one of Jones’ jokes that he’s thrown out there to rile up the community at first, but he’s actually been a good source of information recently. Not so long ago he announced an unnamed young competitor who failed a PEDs test at the IBJJF no gi world championship but was undergoing arbitration, and for months fans were left wondering who this could be. Then after a few weeks of silence, it was revealed that Mica Galvao was the competitor he was referring to when USADA and IBJJF announced his suspension.
If that is anything to go by, there will be some speculation around who Jones is referring to for a while but the BJJ community will eventually get to find out who it is. Sadly, this would be far from the first time that reports have surfaced that a prominent BJJ black belt has been abusing their position and committing heinous crimes. Fight Sports black belt Marcel Goncalves was accused of sexual assault, and Ricardo De La Riva was famously accused of the same by Claudia Do Val. That isn’t even a particularly extensive list either, simply two of the more prominent examples in recent years.
Craig Jones made the cryptic announcement about a predator currently in the BJJ world in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
