ONE Friday Fights 72 took place on July 26th, 2024 and Craig Hutchison opened the show with a beautiful submission win in his match against Banpot Lertthaisong. It’s becoming a trend for ONE Championship that they are now including grappling matches in their formerly striking-focused Friday Fights events, and Hutchison made a great case for the trend continuing. He was aggressive right from the start and he attempted a flying armbar in the opening few seconds against Lertthaisong, quickly scrambling to his feet and being met with a slick footsweep from his opponent that sent him stumbling back.
Lertthaisong capitalised and finished the takedown, ending up in Hutchison’s Z-guard. Hutchison switched to reverse de la riva when Lertthaisong stood up and he started to invert, forcing him to disengage. They battled in the clinch for a little under a minute and neither man could get a clear advantage, until Hutchison saw a tiny opening. That’s when he leapt in to an armbar just like he did right at the start of the match, but this time with better control over his opponent. Lertthaisong tried to stand up and pull his arm free but Hutchison was able to extend it and force the tap in under two minutes of total time in the ring.
