Cory Sandhagen just earned a huge win over Deiveson Figueiredo through the use of leg attacks at UFC On ESPN 67 on May 3rd, 2025. Figueiredo is one of the biggest names that Sandhagen has beaten and it was an impressive performance from start to finish. It’s also an important result for the bantamweight title-picture because both men were inside the top five and this win might have secured Sandhagen a title-shot against the winner of Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley. Sandhagen dominated the first round and the win looked pretty certain after that, but not many people would have predicted how it ended in the next round.

It came about because Figueiredo was using the threat of leg attacks to stand back up when Cory Sandhagen had him in the ground, but it eventually backfired. Sandhagen countered and got into backside 50/50, with Figueiredo backstepping to settle into frontside 50/50. Both men tried to stand up from there but Sandhagen won that battle and came up on top, causing a clear knee injury as Figueiredo screamed in pain and the fight was called off. Figueiredo wasn’t the only elite grappler competing at UFC On ESPN 67 either, as Reinier De Ridder battered Bo Nickal on the feet to get a second-round finish in the co-main event just beforehand.
