Combat Jiu-Jitsu Mexico 3 took place on December 12th, 2024 and the tournament was the very first event scheduled for the inaugural edition of Jiu-Jitsu Overdose. The stakes were higher than they normally are too, as the two brackets were actually serving as qualifiers for the Combat Jiu-Jitsu world championship and EBI 22 later on in the week. The lightweight tournament was particularly exciting, as every single match ended with a submission in regulation time. That was clear right from the start as well, when 10th Planet representative Mauricio Rios got a lightning-quick finish in the first match of the night.
Rios didn’t stop there either, he submitted his next two opponents in equally impressive fashion in order to win the whole tournament. He’s now earned a spot among the elite lineup at the Combat Jiu-Jitsu lightweight world championship and he gets the chance to prove himself against some of the best in the world. The welterweight division was won by Carlos Calvo and he showed off some slick skills with a one-handed rear-naked choke finish in his semi-final match. Calvo went on to win the final in EBI overtime and he will now be among the incredible welterweight lineup at EBI 22, where he gets a shot at an even bigger trophy.
