The Combat Jiu-Jitsu Lightweight World Championship 2024 took place on December 15th, 2024 and the competitors taking part delivered plenty of exciting results. The event was the final tournament of the week at Jiu-Jitsu Overdose and Eddie Bravo really couldn’t have hoped for a better finish. There were several upsets in the bracket, with the first two coming in the quarter-finals as two of the favorites were submitted by their opponents. Matt Masch beat top contender Max Hanson in EBI overtime during their match, booking his place in the semi-final opposite the other underdog who managed to surprise a more established competitor
That man was JJ Bowers, as he submitted the reigning Combat Jiu-Jitsu lightweight world champion Keith Krikorian with an Anaconda Choke that put him to sleep. When Bowers and Masch met in the final, it was Masch who was able to get the win with a brutal Aoki lock that forced the tap. The other side of the bracket was a little more predictable, as the two favorites from there both managed to make it into the semi-final together. They were top 10th Planet representatives Nathan Orchard and Ben Eddy, with both of them submitting their first two opponents prior to that match.
It was a tough match for both men and it was the first time that either of them had needed to go to EBI overtime on the night. It was Eddy who managed to emerge victorious there though, as he set up the Scottish Twister variation in order to finish Orchard in the very first period of overtime. Eddy met the 19 year-old prospect Masch in the final and both men had been in this position before, with Masch making it to the final of the featherweight edition earlier this year. The second time was the charm for Masch, as he picked up his third submission win in regulation time to win the title.
