Brian Ortega recently went on a trip all the way to North Carolina in order to choke out a fan who was trashtalking him on Fortnite. It might seem like an unusual decision for a professional fighter but it’s far from the first time that a UFC veteran has confronted someone trolling them online. In fairness to Ortega, this was one of the few times that there didn’t seem to be any real maliciousness behind it at all. In fact, the fan in question was more than happy to let Ortega choke him unconscious and the pair were laughing with one another afterward.
Middleweight veteran Kevin Holland beat an internet troll during a sparring session just a little while ago, and the cases of fighters confronting MMA fans has been increasing in recent years. Paddy Pimblett is another high-profile example of that trend and given the prevalence of social media, it seems as though we’ll only see more of it in the future. That’s why it’s so refreshing to see these disagreements handled in a much more respectable and friendly manner. When Ortega introduced the video, it was clear from the start that it was going to be pretty lighthearted:
“A lot of people ask me, ‘Hey, play with me on Fortnite!’ Cool, cool. Only problem is, you guys be talking mad you-know-what. So I had a homie, an online homie, start talking mad smack. The real reason why I flew to North Carolina is because he was talking sh*t, we made a bet. I said, ‘Bro, I’ll fly over there and choke you out.’ Here he is. I showed up. I showed up to his d*mn job. Had to wait for him to finish his job, so now I’m going to choke your *ss out. A bet’s a bet. You going to go to sleep?”
Brian Ortega shared the footage of him submitting a fan who talked trash to him on Fortnite in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
