Breylor Grout has just been promoted to BJJ black belt by the founder of Legion Jiu-Jitsu and his coach, Keenan Cornelius. This makes him one of a select few people that have been promoted to black belt by Cornelius, as he only awarded his first black belt to Miha Perhavec at the beginning of 2021. Grout is one of the top competitors who represents Legion and it’s no surprise that he’s been promoted to black belt after well over a decade training in the sport. It’ll be interesting to see what Grout does moving forward now, and how well he does if he chooses to compete against other top athletes in the sport.
Grout gave his thoughts on this huge moment in his grappling career and took the time thank everyone who has helped him reach this point:
“Crazy day. Just got my black belt. Thank you so much to everyone whose been apart of this. From my brother Bruno who got me started in this sport 13 years ago, I hope I made you proud up there. To my original instructors and family Rodrigo Medeiros, Chris Kelbaugh, Stefano Aguiar, Gabriel Moraes, PB BJJ Center, I couldn’t have done it without you guys. I appreciate you all more than I can express. To Keenan Cornelius, Sloan Clymer, Miha Perhavec, Michael Salazar, Andris Brunovskis, Justin Flores, and all my family at Legion Jiu-Jitsu, you guys make me better day by day. To my sponsor Gold BJJ, you guys are too awesome, thank you so much for supporting me all these years even before I started competing. There’s a lot more to be said but I’m pretty overrun with emotions, maybe I’ll make another post later elaborating further. But for now, just very appreciative.”
