BJJ Clubes Doubles In Size With 16 Teams For 2025 Season

BJJ Clubes will be coming back for a second season in 2025 and the promotion has increased both the number of teams and the total prize money available. The inaugural season took place last year and it was a huge success, taking place across four events and culminating in an epic grand finale where Botafago won the title. Dozens of matches took place across the season with some of the best gi grapplers in the world stepping on the mats, and the 7 Botafago representatives walked away with 150,000 Brazilian Real to share between them. This time around there will be double the matches and more than triple the total prize money, most likely resulting in several additional events.

The promotion was founded by BJJ legend Andre Pederneiras and the creating the first gi team grappling event was already a monumental task, so he must have a big team behind him to pull off what he has planned for 2025. Instead of the original 8 teams there will now be 16 competing, although only 4 have been officially confirmed so far. The reigning champions Botafago will be returning to defend their titles and their fellow finalists Cruzeiro will be coming back for revenge. Third-placed Corinthians will also be appearing again, while Fortaleza rounds out the first batch of announcements after losing their quarter-final match last year.

Increasing the teams will obviously increase the amount of action but the huge increase prize money should serve as additional encouragement for everyone involved too. The winning team will now receive 300,000 Brazilian Real to be split among their 7 competitors, while the team that finishes second will receive 150,000. Not only is that double the grand prize and triple last year’s total, but BJJ Clubes are also awarding the third-placed team in their 2025 season with 50,000 Brazilian Real too. There’s no news yet on when the new season will begin but if last year is anything to go by, the promotion will likely wait until the second half of the year when the IBJJF gi season is over.

BJJ Clubes Andre Pederneiras announced the increase in prize money and teams for their 2025 season in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
