Beatriz ‘Bia’ Mesquita just made her promotional debut at UFC Rio on October 11th, 2025 and she won the fight by submission in the second round. It was a flawless performance against a veteran opponent, Irina Alekseeva, and Mesquita even earned a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus for it as well. She was riding a lot of momentum coming into the fight as well, as she had started her MMA career with a perfect 5-0 run on the regional MMA circuit. Mesquita was always going to do well against lower-level fighters thanks to her elite Jiu-Jitsu, but her UFC debut was her first big test.
After a little feeling out in the first minute, Mesquita took control of the fight and never really let up. She took Alekseeva down and dropped into mount, landing a ton of ground and pound throughout the first round. She considered attacking submissions once or twice and it looked like the referee was debating whether or not to call an end to the fight a few times too. Alekseeva survived the round but the second round was more of the same from Mesquita, as she took her down again and continued raining down shots. Alekseeva gave up her back this time though and Mesquita immediately sunk in the rear-naked choke for the win.
