Beatriz ‘Bia’ Mesquita has just extended her undefeated professional MMA record to 4-0 after getting the win by disqualification at LFA 203 on March 6th, 2025. Although it’s obviously not the way that Mesquita wanted to win, she has managed to maintain the perfect start to her career. As a ten-time IBJJF World Championship gold medalist, she had been able to use her incredible grappling to secure submission wins in every single one of her fights before this. She was planning on continuing that streak in this fight too, and it looked as though she might have done before the fight’s unfortunate ending.

Her opponent, Hope Chase, is an experienced fighter in her own right and was coming into this fight with a 4-2 professional record. Things started out well for Mesquita, as she had won the first round pretty clearly and it looked as though she might have been able to add another submission win to her record. The second round started off pretty similarly and Mesquita found herself on top in Chase’s open guard, throwing strikes and looking to progress further. That’s when the illegal strike came, as Chase hit Mesquita with two upkicks in quick sequence despite the fact that Mesquita was on her knees at the time.

The first upkick was a little debatable, as Chase had already made contact before applying force and it was aimed roughly at Mesquita’s neck. It could be argued that the first strike was more of a push, but the second upkick was undeniably illegal. There was clear force behind it before it landed and it hit Mesquita flush in the face, and it was immediately obvious that it had caused some damage. Officials waved the fight off and reviewed the footage, eventually determining that Chase was to be disqualified and Mesquita was awarded the victory as a result. Mesquita will no doubt be back in action pretty quickly, as she looks to continue her run to the UFC.

The full LFA 203 event replay, including Beatriz ‘Bia’ Mesquita getting the win over Hope Chase by disqualification, is available to watch on UFC Fight Pass. Alternatively, the sequence itself can be seen below:
