Beatriz ‘Bia’ Mesquita just put on one of the most impressive performances of her young MMA career in order to become the bantamweight champion at LFA 211 on June 20th, 2025. She was already 4-0 coming into this fight with three submission finishes and a disqualification victory in a fight she was clearly winning. As one of the greatest female BJJ competitors in the history of the sport there was always going to be a ton of hype around MMA career, but Mesquita has continually proved that she’s ready for bigger challenges. With this major regional MMA title added to her collection, a chance to fight in the UFC seems like it might be on the horizon.
Mesquita was facing undefeated Canadian prospect Sierra Dinwoodie for the title and one of the most impressive aspects of the fight was actually her crisp striking. Mesquita looked comfortable and fluid striking with Dinwoodie for the first minute, before she hit a clean single-leg takedown. The next four minutes of the round was flawless positional control from Mesquita, as she kept Dinwoodie stuck in half guard and kept up a steady pace of strikes from the top. The round ended and Mesquita was very clearly leading the fight, with it looking like she would run away with a decision even if she couldn’t finish Dinwoodie.
Dinwoodie came out much more aggressively in the second round but Mesquita maintained her composure and landed several decent shots of her own while avoiding most of Dinwoodie’s. Mesquita shot in for a double-leg after about a minute and a half of striking, but she used the cage to pass straight into mount this time. Mesquita controlled Dinwoodie perfectly once again but now she was in a much better position to really open up with her striking. She prevented Dinwoodie from turning away while landing plenty of punches and elbows, eventually forcing the referee to call off the fight and award her the TKO win.
