Beatriz ‘Bia’ Mesquita is one of the most successful BJJ competitors in the world and she’s just made the decision to change gyms, as she’ll now be training at American Top Team in Florida instead. Mesquita has spent over a decade competing and winning at the highest levels of BJJ and she has represented Gracie Humaita since long before that. She has had an incredible career, winning 10 IBJJF World Championship gold medals since she first stood on top of the podium in the 64kg division back in 2012. Mesquita won that division 8 times and even managed to win the absolute division twice as well, making her the most accomplished female competitor in IBJJF World Championship history.

While the move to American Top Team might sound like an unusual choice at first given how much success Bia Mesquita has already had over the course of her career, she is actually preparing to take on new challenges in the future. She recently announced that she had signed with First Round Management and was getting ready to make the transition to MMA, so a move to American Top Team might work wonders for her development in the new sport.

American Top Team is known as one of the most successful MMA gyms in the sport and has repeatedly been awarded ‘MMA Gym of The Year’ as a result of the number of champions that they’ve produced in different promotions. There will plenty of great training partners available for Mesquita too, as Kayla Harrison is just one among many fantastic female fighters that currently train at American Top Team. With an incredible background in BJJ and an elite team around her, it’ll be interesting to see just how far Mesquita is able to go when she makes the jump to MMA.

Bia Mesquita announced the news that she was moving to train at American Top Team in Florida in a recent post to her official Instagram account:
