Ben Eddy is one of the top 10th Planet competitors of all time and he is best known for creating his signature Hindulotine submission, a technique that has helped him submit hundreds of people over the years. As a 10th Planet black belt, it’s only natural that Eddy is familiar with and proficient in the rubber guard and Eddie Bravo is known for encouraging his students to be creative in their training. Eddy has taken that to a whole new level by developing his own submission and he actually used the rubber guard to create the Hindulotine, a variation of the guillotine choke with the leg inside. Eddy is an exciting and talented competitor anyway so he was always going to be popular but his ability to surprise opponents with the Hindulotine has allowed him to go even further again.
Ben Eddy and his signature submission have been at the forefront of professional grappling for around a decade now, as he made it to the semi-finals of the first ever EBI event in 2014 by submitting both of his first opponents with the Hindulotine. Although he didn’t manage to lock up another one at the first Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Championship, he still won the main event superfight there too. He’s competed in the main event of Fight 2 Win events and even recently featured on Who’s Number One as well, remaining at the highest level of the sport ever since he first arrived at it. He’s submitted some seriously talented grapplers during the course of his career and many of them have fallen victim to the Hindulotine.
Although the Hindulotine might be his signature submission, Eddy doesn’t hyper-focus on that alone. Not only does he have plenty of other submission wins but he has also developed a system of attacks that all work off that initial response to the Hindulotine. As he explains in the video, an opponent using their hand to defend the Hindulotine only opens themselves up to a wrong-side triangle choke instead. That can either be finished as a punch choke or with an S-grip, or it gives you the option to transition to a regular triangle choke and finish from there.
