Bellator 247 saw a young fighter make history on the preliminary card when Monika Tochlikova submitted her opponent with the promotion’s first event Scorpion Crunch finish. The submission is incredibly rare in professional MMA and Tochlikova managed to secure it in her first ever trip to the cage, her only previous experience being a single amateur bout. Her opponent, Jade Jormand was also fighting in her professional MMA debut, after previously trying her hand at Kickboxing first. The submission came around halfway through the fight and showed the clear difference in grappling skill between the two women who were opening up Bellator’s night of fights in Milan.
There’s a first time for everything!
🎙 @JohnMcCarthyMMA says he’s never seen the "superguard" (🦂 aka scorpion crunch) pulled off in #MMA & Monika Tochlikova made it happen at #Bellator247.

This fight seemed to set the trend for Bellator 247 as all but two of the card’s matchups ended with a finish and six of those nine finishes came by way of submission. Elsewhere on the card, Kywan Gracie Behring made his Bellator debut in just his second professional fight and delivered something of a lacklustre performance. He lost a rather decisive trip to the judge’s scorecards, as all three of them saw the fight the same way and his opponent, Constantin Gnusariov was declared the victor and improved his record to 4-0-1.
The original main event matchup between Paul Daley and Derek Anderson was cancelled at the very last minute after Daley was hospitalized due to a failed weight-cut. The promotion was then forced to remove the bout from the lineup and a match between Denise Kielholtz and Kate Jackson was bumped up to main event status.
