Ten-time IBJJF World Champion Beatriz ‘Bia’ Mesquita continued her impressive MMA career by winning her third consecutive professional fight at LFA 198 on December 6th, 2024. It’s been a great run by Mesquita so far and she hasn’t even been competing in MMA for an entire year yet, as she made her professional debut in June of this year. It was a pretty predictable finish, as the elite grappler won her debut by submission in the very first round. She’s continued to use that massive advantage throughout her career so far, as her second fight at LFA 194 also ended in a submission in the first round.
This latest fight was actually the longest of Mesquita’s career, as her opponent did manage to make it out of the first round this time. This was the most experienced opponent that Mesquita has faced so far too, as both of her previous opponents were making their professional debuts. Fernanda Araujo was already 2-4 coming into this fight though and with a lengthy amateur career before that, she had the clear advantage over Mesquita in that area. It’s worth remembering though that Mesquita has had hundreds of grappling matches throughout her career and although that isn’t the same as MMA, that experience is still huge.
Mesquita was able to take mount on Araujo in the second round of their fight and she used some heavy ground and pound to force her to give up her back. From there it was only a matter of time before Mesquita was able to lock up the rear-naked choke, and she submitted Araujo at 4:21 of the second round. This most recent win has shown that Mesquita is ready for bigger challenges on the regional MMA circuit and she’s going to be a seriously tough opponent for anyone there. The sky really is the limit for a fighter with such a high skill level in one area and it’ll be interesting to see how far Mesquita can go in the sport.
