Footage has just gone viral of former UFC bantamweight world champion Aljamain Sterling getting choked out during the filming of popular Russian MMA reality show, ALF Global Reality. This is far from the first time that the show has produced a memorable moment, and clips from past seasons have often gone viral. They have a history of securing the services of top MMA fighters as coaches and they recently featured a friendly grappling match between UFC veterans Khamzat Chimaev and Arman Tsarukyan. That wasn’t the only footage of that particular season that immediately became popular either, as Chimaev also took on Luke Rockhold earlier on.
This recent footage of Sterling getting put to sleep was a little different to those other two examples though, as it doesn’t look as though it was the result of sparring. Aljamain Sterling was actually choked out from behind by one of the competitors on his team and given that the incident takes place on grass outside, it gives the impression that he may have been caught by surprise. The season has not yet been released in full and the only footage that fans have to go by is from the teaser trailers and short clips that the promotion has released so far.
Sterling is serving as one of the coaches on this season of ALF Global Reality and there’s sure to be other interesting moments given that his opposite number is his old rival Petr Yan. Sterling was the man who dethroned Yan at UFC 259 and although that first fight ended in a disqualification, Sterling also won the rematch at UFC 273 by split decision. Both men have experienced mixed results since their second fight together, as Yan has gone 2-2 since then while Sterling has gone 3-2 and lost the bantamweight title. Unlike The Ultimate Fighter; the coaches will not be fighting against one another at the end of the season but there is sure to be plenty of interesting moments regardless.
MMAWarrior shared the clip of Aljamain Sterling being choked out and the ALF Global Reality will be announcing the release of their new season on their official Instagram account:
