Adele Fornarino has just stepped in on the last minute to replace Ffion Davies against Amanda ‘Tubby’ Alequin on the upcoming Who’s Number One 22 event on February 9th, 2024. That was actually one of the first matches announced for the card and it was going to take place quite late in the evening, as Davies was going to be putting her flyweight title on the line. The belt is no longer available now that the champion isn’t in attendance so instead this match between Fornarino and Alequin will likely provide the opportunity to be the next in line to challenge Davies.
It also presents an interesting situation, as Fornarino is the featherweight silver medalist from the IBJJF No Gi World Championship 2023 and her only loss in the division was on an incredibly small margin, to a woman that Alequin is actually very familiar with. Alex Enriquez took gold in that division and it capped off a fantastic year for her, where she only lost a single match out of an impressive 22 in total. Her only loss in the year actually came against Alequin, who won a decision against her back at Who’s Number One 18 around halfway through the year.
A win against Alequin would be huge for Fornarino, as it would not only put her front of the line for the next shot at Davies’ flyweight title but it would also serve as redemption for falling narrowly short of the biggest title of her career so far. Alequin will also be eager to get back in the win column, as her most recent appearance came against Tammi Musumeci at ONE Fight Night 10 and she lost a tough decision there. It’ll definitely be an interesting match and there’s bound to be plenty of action when these two women hit the mats.
