The ADCC Santiago Open 2025 took place on June 7th, 2025 and the tournament managed to attract quite a few top competitors to Chile. Yona Cardenas had the most impressive performance of the day by a mile, and not just because he won the absolute division despite competing at under 70kg earlier on. Cardenas won both brackets and submitted almost every one of his opponents, winning 9 matches in total and finding the finish in 8 of them. The women’s divisions also produced a double champion, as Marta Ovalle submitted all 4 of her opponents to win gold at over 70kg and in the absolute.
The two people winning the biggest single brackets were Arley Brandao and Marco Queiroz, who both had to beat 5 opponents to emerge victorious at under 76kg and under 83kg respectively. 21 year-old black belt Rafael Trabuco had a flawless run at under 100kg, adding 3 submission wins to his great run since being promoted to black belt just a few months ago. Argentinian veteran Eliana Carauni did exactly the same in the under 55kg division, finishing all 3 of her opponents too. Top contender Gabriel Brod made an appearance at under 91kg and he almost maintained a perfect record, winning 3 matches by submission and dominating the fourth on points.
