The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam – Rio De Janeiro 2025 took place on July 20th, 2025 and some of the best gi grapplers in the world competed. There were two competitors who stood out the most due to the massive brackets they had to battle their way through; Kevin Gabriel and Vitoria Vieira. They both had to win 5 matches in the lightweight division and Gabriel faced some tough opposition in the men’s bracket, while Vieira dominated the women’s bracket with 4 submissions. Perhaps the best talent pools were in the men’s middleweight and super-heavyweight divisions, where Uanderson Ferreira and Felipe Bezerra each had to beat 4 top opponents.

There were plenty of other big names competing though, with Vinicius Liberati taking gold in between them at light-heavyweight. Lucas Protasio also emerged victorious with 4 wins in the welterweight division, while the women’s middleweight division was equally big and Gisele Tavares won gold with 4 wins there. The two final men’s champions came from the lightest weight classes, as Jhonathan Angelim registered 4 wins for his gold medal at featherweight and Bruno Borges registered 3 for his at light-featherweight. The lightest champion of the whole event was Grasielle Brandao; who had a flawless performance in the women’s roosterweight bracket with 2 submissions in 2 wins.

In the next division up at light-featherweight, Gabriela Pereira had some very tough matchups in front of her. She was able to come out on top with 3 pretty close wins on points though, with the first two coming down to a single point and the final being even. Yara Soares also made an appearance in the women’s heavyweight division and she proved once again why she’s one of the very best in the world at this weight, as she won her first match by submission and her a second by a pretty wide margin of 5 points.
