The AJP Tour came to London for the latest instalment of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam tour on March 12th, 2023 and there were plenty of elite grapplers who delivered great results at the event. The tournament was part of a year-long trip around the world that sees the promotion host several events in key cities, attracting top talent from the host country and often beyond. One of the most impressive performances came from Gabrieli Pessanha in the female heavyweight division, as she continued the incredible run of form that saw her crowned ‘Female Grappler of the Year’ in the gi in 2022 and won gold.

She wasn’t the only elite female competitor at the event though, and the light-featherweight division was particularly stacked. So much so that Ana Rodrigues and Alexa Yanes met in the final of the division, putting on a match that would not have been out of place in the finals of an IBJJF major. The men’s divisions saw several top athletes reach the podium too, with Yatan Bueno emerging victorious in the super-heavyweight division and Mica Galvao looking fantastic in his first gi competition in almost a year.
