The Abu Dhabu Grand Slam made it’s latest stop in Chengdu on September 28th, 2025 and the elite gi grapplers competing in it all delivered some great results. There were plenty of big names too, particularly in the men’s welterweight division; where Lucas Protasio stood on top of the podium. The two heaviest men’s weight classes also had some tough matches too, with Uanderson Ferreira winning light-heavyweight gold and Alexander Sak submitting three out of his four opponents to win the super-heavyweight division. The other notable name in the men’s brackets was Matheus Onda, and he had a similarly impressive performance on the way to winning gold at featherweight.
Diana Teixeira won the roosterweight division and Sabrina Gondim won gold at lightweight, but they were far from the only top female competitors in the tournament. In between those two weight classes there was a pretty impressive upset, as Laurie Rocha came away with the title despite some tough opposition. Jamile Lima pulled off a solid win in the final of the middleweight division too, but that wasn’t as much of a surprise. The heaviest female weight class was much more predictable in the end, as Yara Soares is a veteran of the AJP Tour circuit and it’s very rare that she doesn’t win her bracket.
