Wiz Khalifa has been involved in the BJJ world for quite some time now and he recently decided to pay tribute to legendary competitor Leandro Lo. The tribute happened during a live performance of the most successful song of Khalifa’s career, ‘See You Again’, when he gradually cycled through the names and images of people who had passed away in the last decade on the screen behind him. Alongside several popular rappers, Khalifa also included actor Paul Walker and Lo himself before displaying ‘Free YSL’. That final message references the arrest of Young Thug and dozens of other members of YSL records who were arrested and indicted on RICO charges.
Khalifa has been training in various martial arts for quite some time, and he actually started with BJJ in 2017 under Rigan Machado. Shortly then he also started training Muay Thai with Cat Zingano and he’s become deeply involved in both sports. Given that Khalifa is also a firm Marijuana advocate, it made sense that he would eventually find his way to High Rollerz. Not only has he attended several events but he even sponsored a team at High Rollerz 15. Although his experience with martial arts has been purely in practice and in sparring for the first few years of his journey, Khalifa has also been interested in taking on an opponent in a competitive BJJ match.
It makes sense then that Wiz Khalifa would be aware of Leandro Lo and might choose to pay tribute to him, as Lo was one of the biggest figures in the sport. Lo was taken from the world far too soon, as he was shot and killed during an altercation in a nightclub in Sao Paulo, Brazil on August 7th, 2022. Although the primary suspect was apprehended and charged very quickly after, the trial did not begin for several months. After being delayed by over a month, the trial has now begun and it won’t be long before a conclusion has been reached in the case.
The footage of Wiz Khalifa paying tribute to Leandro Lo and several rappers during a concert was uploaded to the official Youtube channel of PinkSheerMLG:
