UFC fan-favourite Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira just registered a wild knockout, using a judo throw to bury his opponent into the canvas and get the win. The finishing throw happened just a few minutes into the very first round of his co-main event fight against Stefan Sekulic at Titan FC 82 on June 2nd, 2023. Oliveira was pinned against the cage but his experience showed in the clinch exchange as he used a few short strikes to get the overhook that he wanted before launching his opponent with a slick throw. Sekulic was unconscious as soon as he hit the mat and although Oliveira landed another strike before the referee waved the fight off, it was clear that the fight was over already.
Oliveira has been a professional MMA fighter for an incredibly long time already, amassing over 40 fights since he first made his debut all the way back in 2011. He built up an 11-2-1 (1) professional record on the Brazilian regional MMA circuit over the first few years before getting signed to the UFC, and was given an incredibly tough matchup in his promotional debut. Oliveira faced elite grappler Gilbert Burns in his first fight for the promotion and although he lost by submission, it was a really difficult fight to kickstart his career at the highest level.
He spent the next 7 years fighting for the UFC and had some memorable fights against top competitors like Gunnar Nelson, Donald Cerrone, and Carlos Condit over that time. He was cut from the promotion after a run of 4 straight losses, finishing his career there with an 11-10 (1) record at the highest level in 2022. Since then the UFC fan-favourite has been fighting all around the world for smaller promotions, extending his full professional record to 25-14-1 (2) after this most recent Judo throw knockout win.
