Kyle Daukaus managed to do something only a select few fighters have ever managed to do at UFC Vegas 48 when he secured the submission finish against Jamie Pickett in the very last second of the round. The fight was generally a grappling match in the end and Daukaus managed to display a clear-cut significant advantage in that area over and over again in just a single round. He landed three of six takedown attempts and managed to accumulate a total of 4:12 of control time in a fight that only lasted 4:59 in the end. He locked up a D’arce Choke right at the end of the round and he clearly recognized that there wasn’t much time left as he squeezed with all his strength to finish the fight.
During his post-fight interview, Daukaus used his time to call out another elite MMA fighter known for his skill with D’arce Chokes:
“I wanna call out Tony Ferguson. I have more D’Arce Chokes, so I’m gonna go for the ‘D’Arce Knight’. My new nickname. ‘D’Arce Knight’.”
Elsewhere on the card, another fantastic grappler also managed to secure a submission finish in the first round. Two-time ADCC European Champion Stephanie Egger locked up a tight armbar against Jessica-Rose Clark after a little over three minutes of action and forced the tap soon after. This marked her third appearance in the UFC cage and her second win in a row as she looks to fight her way through to the top of the Bantamweight division.
