Top MMA lightweight Mateusz Gamrot has just been invited to compete at ADCC 2026 in what will be one of the toughest divisions at under 77kg. Gamrot will be a huge addition to the event in terms of name value of course, as he’s currently ranked 7th in the UFC lightweight division. He isn’t just there as a high-profile figure to bring attention to the tournament though, Gamrot will also be a legitimate contender for the title. He’s an excellent grappler as far as MMA fighters go, and he has actually already won the European edition of ADCC Trials twice before.
Gamrot is a lifelong wrestler who even made it as far as the Polish National wrestling team during his youth; transitioning to MMA in 2011. He adapted to the sport quickly and undefeated for the first few years of his career; which was around the same time he won his first ADCC European Trials. Gamrot won it for the first time in 2014 and made his ADCC debut the following year, where he went out in the first round to Lucas Lepri. His second gold medal at the ADCC European Trials came in 2019 and when he returned to ADCC later that year, he went out in the opening round again after facing Garry Tonon.
Although Gamrot has suffered a first-round exit twice, both losses were against men who ended up standing on the podium those years. Gamrot has only improved since then too, getting plenty of valuable experience against some of the best MMA fighters in the world. His professional record now stands at 25-4 (1) and his next fight is already booked against Esteban Ribovics at UFC 327 on April 11th, 2026. Gamrot will also be coming into ADCC 2026 with the home-field advantage too, as he is Polish and the event is returning to Poland for the first time ever.
