Tye Ruotolo has laid out his intentions in a recent post-fight press conference, explaining that he’s gunning for a ONE Championship title just like his brother. Kade Ruotolo won the inaugural Lightweight title by submitting Uali Khurzev shortly after he put in the performance of a lifetime at ADCC 2022. While Kade won a gold medal in the 77kg division, Tye went out in the opening round of the 88kg division. When time came around for the absolute division, Tye came back with a vengeance and ended up coming home with a bronze medal.
The Ruotolo brothers then competed at the same event, with Kade defending his title against Matheus Gabriel shortly after Tye got his second win under the promotion. During the post-fight press conference, Tye made it clear that he can’t wait to have the same honor:
“Right now, my brother’s killing it with the belt in the co-main and for sure, I’d like to be there as well, but I know my opportunity is going to come sooner or later. So as long as I keep doing my thing, keep submitting and putting on good performances… I’ll have a belt around my waist, and I’ll be right there with my brother.”
Tye Ruotolo also spoke about his most recent win over Marat Gafurov specifically and explained how he approached that and every other fight that stands in his way of taking home a ONE Championship title:
“My goal, every time I step on the mat, is just to give the fans something that they haven’t seen before, or something that really gravitates their interests. So yeah, the match definitely took a little bit longer than I thought, but yeah, it was a really good match, and he’s a super tough individual.”
