The Danaher Death Squad was formed in the blue basement of Renzo Gracie New York, and named after the legendary coach John Danaher. While it was just a nickname, it was originally used to refer to the competitors representing Renzo Gracie New York like Garry Tonon and Gordon Ryan. Membership changed over the years as some grapplers left and others joined the team, with the group even moving to Puerto Rico in 2020. The Danaher Death Squad disbanded in July 2021, with members going in different directions. Danaher himself even left, forming New Wave Jiu-Jitsu with Tonon and Ryan in Austin, Texas.
