Renato Canuto has finally had his ONE Championship debut match announced and the veteran BJJ black belt will be facing off against Norway’s top BJJ black belt Tommy Langaker at ONE 160. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 26th, and the grappling match between the pair is scheduled to be the first fight on the main card. The event itself is stacked with the best that ONE Championship has to offer and is headlined by two separate title fights, both of which will be contested in the promotion’s MMA division.
In the co-main event, Thanh Le is looking to defend his Featherweight world title once again as he takes on Tang Kai while the final fight of the night will feature Christian Lee attempting to avenge his recent loss to Ok Rae Yoon and regain the Lightweight world title that he held this time last year. The rest of the card will follow the ONE Championship style of mixing different combat sports rulesets as it will feature both MMA and Muay Thai bouts, including the alternate match of the Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix.
Renato Canuto was one of a host of top BJJ black belts that ONE Championship have signed in recent months to star in their growing submission grappling division. He’s not getting an easy match in his first fight however, as Tommy Langaker is an ADCC trials winner who has reached the podium of the IBJJF world championships on several occasions. This isn’t just a difficult match however, as there’s also quite a lot on the line. There’s nothing official yet of course, but Mikey Musumeci has recently been booked to compete for the inaugural Flyweight submission grappling world championship and a win here could see either man competing for the Lightweight title in the future.
The news that Renato Canuto would be facing Tommy Langaker at ONE 160 was announced in a post to the promotion’s official Instagram account, where they revealed the full card for the event:
