Kayla Harrison was forced to spend the majority of 2020 on the sidelines like the vast majority of combat sports athletes, as a direct result of the Coronavirus pandemic and the havoc it wreaked on professional sports events. Still, she’s determined to make up for lost time as Harrison has booked another MMA fight despite making her successful debut for Invicta FC only a matter of weeks ago. This time she’s competing for a completely different promotion at Titan FC 66 on December 17th, although it will be against a familiar opponent in Jozette Cotton.
The pair first met at PFL 6 in what was Harrison’s second professional MMA fight and Cotton put on a good display in becoming one of the few women to make it to the third round against the Olympic Champion. That wasn’t enough however as Harrison won by TKO regardless and moved on to become the PFL Lightweight Champion in 2019. Since that run she’s extended her incredible record to 8-0 at Invicta FC 43 by crushing Courtney King in a dominating fashion, and there isn’t much to suggest this fight will go differently to the first time around.
Titan FC COO Lex McMahon spoke to ESPN and seemed excited about the prospect of having an Olympic Champion on their books: “Kayla’s obviously a phenomenal talent and we’re excited to have her, and Jozette is super tough, super credible. It’s going to be interesting to see if Jozette puts up a different fight than she did last time.” He also explained that the full card hasn’t been decided yet and the promotion is considering whether or not Harrison v Cotton 2 will serve as the main event.
