Polaris Squads nearly has half a team filled out as a third member of Team UK’s 8-man squad can now be revealed, Polaris veteran Jed Hue. It’s been exactly two weeks since the Polaris Squads event was first announced and there’s just under a month left until the event actually takes place, so we can expect the announcements to start coming through thick and fast from now on. There are still yet to be any competitors announced for Team Europe, so there’s a total of 13 athletes that we’ll be due to find out about soon.
According to the Polaris rules announcement, half of the team will have to weigh under 75kg and the other half under 95kg so it’s a little bit of a mystery which of those two classes Jed Hue will actually compete in. Historically, he usually competes at 77kg but has managed to make it as low as 73.5kg in the past and has weighed in as heavy as 83kg within the last year. On the basis of his two most recent weigh-ins, 83kg and 77kg, it seems likely that he’ll manage to make the drop to 75kg and join Ashley Williams in representing the lighter competitors.
Bradley Hill is the only other member of Team UK that’s been announced for Polaris Squads so far and will most certainly be in the heavier class. Seeing as all three competitors have fought under the Polaris banner before, there’s potential for the return of other experienced athletes like the pair of finalists for the Polaris UK Grand Prix, Freddie Vosgrone and Ross Nicholls. Only time will tell whether the two men will make a return, and if Vosgrone does, whether he will represent Team UK or Team Europe.
The full event will be streamed live on 27th September on UFC FightPass, click here to subscribe and watch.
