Gordon Ryan has just started teasing his next professional grappling match and according to him, the contract he’s just signed is for the biggest match in the history of the sport. Ryan hasn’t confirmed the name of his opponent just yet but naturally, fans are eager to find out who it could be. He recently engaged in a back-and-forth with Felipe Pena that resulted in the pair agreeing to two matches with a grand total of $220,000 of their own money on the line, but Pena actually replied to Ryan’s fight teaser and implied that it isn’t him that this new match is with.
There’s no shortage of potential opponents for Ryan that would make for interesting matches as he previously got into a heated exchange with Ryan Hall, and he’s been called out by the legendary Jeff Monson in recent months too. It’s not just other grapplers who are interested in matches with Ryan either, as he has done his fair share of calling out as well. Just recently, he decided to challenge four of the best grapplers around to consecutive matches against him and it’s entirely possible that this could be the biggest match that he’s hinting at.
At the time of writing, the only confirmed competitive appearance for Ryan for the rest of this year will be at ADCC 2022 where he will be coming up against a number of the world’s top grapplers at over 99kg alongside his superfight against Andre Galvao. Considering that both he and Galvao have signed contracts with ONE Championship, it’s also possible that this is who he’s going to be facing shortly. As it stands, Gordon Ryan is the biggest star in the sport and pretty much universally regarded as the greatest no gi grappler of all time so it’ll certainly be interesting to see who he could possibly be taking on for his next match.
Gordon Ryan announced the news that the biggest match in grappling history has just been signed in a post to his official Instagram account:
