FloGrappling’s regular event, Who’s Number One, brings the top no gi grappler of our generation onto it’s stage on October 2nd as Gordon Ryan faces off against fellow ADCC 2019 champion, Matheus Diniz. The two competitors won the 99kg and 88kg categories respectively, while Ryan also took home the absolute title to become a double champion and earn the right to take on Andre Galvao in 2021 for the superfight championship. The match has been designed to determine which of these two athletes deserve the number one spot on FloGrappling’s pound-for-pound rankings and to serve as the headline match in what will no doubt be another exciting event.
The match is due to be contested under Submission-Only rules with a 30 minute time-limit. Should the athletes reach the time-limit without either man winning then the match will go to a Judge’s Decision to determine the winner. As yet, there have been no announcements made as to what the supporting cast will be although FloGrappling will be due to release the rest of the card over the coming days.
Although Ryan will enjoy a pretty significant size advantage in his match with Diniz, the Marcelo Garcia black belt has performed well in absolute divisions in both the IBJJF World Championships and the IBJJF no gi Pan-Ams. Neither man has been that active since ADCC 2019, with Diniz only competing twice in one night and Ryan having a total of 7 matches in the last year with 2 of those matches being against NCAA wrestlers. He was most recently seen on the same stage defeating Kyle Boehm by Armbar to solidify his place as the top no gi grappler around right now.
