Reigning ADCC world champion Ffion Davies has just signed an exclusive contract with Polaris for any matches that she takes in the UK. It’s a huge move by the promotion, as they’ve secured the services of the most successful competitor that the country has ever seen. Not only did she become the first UK athlete to win an ADCC title at ADCC 2022, but she already made history as the first one to win an IBJJF No Gi World Championship back in 2018. That wasn’t even the only record she set in 2022, as she actually became the first UK person to win an IBJJF World Championship that very same year.
Davies has been setting records and establishing a new level of success for UK competitors throughout her entire black belt career and she has been a regular fixture on the Polaris mats throughout her career. She is actually the promotion’s under 55kg world champion at present, a title that she first won all the way back at Polaris 9 and has since defended against Talita Alencar. She did attempt to win a second Polaris title in the under 60kg grand prix at their 23rd event too, although she went out in the semi-final.
Signing Ffion Davies to an exclusive contract in the UK is a huge move by Polaris though, as it allows them to keep one of their biggest draws from appearing on any local rival shows like Grapplefest. Polaris are still the biggest promotion in Europe by a pretty large margin though, and it’s decisions like this that have allowed them to rise to the top of the continent. In fact, Polaris was awarded ‘Promotion of the Year’ at the JitsMagazine BJJ Awards last year as a result of the consistently high level of shows that they put on. This shows that not only are they committing to growing their brand even more in the years to come, but also that the people in charge are making good decisions to allow that to happen.
Polaris announced the news that Ffion Davies had signed an exclusive contract for matches in the UK in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
