Cat Zingano is just days away from making her second appearance in the Bellator cage and she’s decided to set up a Scholarship fund worth $10,000 through the use of bold.org, a platform that helps fight student debt with philanthropy. Zingano is a fantastic all-rounded fighter and despite only holding a brown belt in BJJ, she’s a stellar grappler with an NCAA division 3 career and a gold medal from the 2010 ADCC North American trials to prove it.
Her MMA career started off perfectly with nine straight victories that propelled her all the way into a UFC title shot against Ronda Rousey just a little over a year after her husband sadly passed away. This was when Rousey was at the height of her powers and Zingano was submitted just seconds into the first round, and went on to lose her next two fights as well. She righted the ship briefly against Marion Reneau before being on the receiving end of an unfortunate freak accident that led to her losing her fight against Megan Anderson, where a headkick caused her eye to be grazed by her opponent’s toe and she was unable to continue.
After she was released from the UFC, she took some time off before signing with Bellator and making her promotional debut in a winning effort against Gabby Holloway. Now, Cat Zingano is just days away from her second fight for the promotion and she’s decided to give back to the community and help young students who find themselves in a similar situation to she did, by setting up her scholarship fund. It will be awarded to a student who is fighting through the loss of a loved one and is in need of financial support for their education as they move forward.
